Fourteen children were killed when the roof of a private tuition centre in Lahore’s Kahna suburb collapsed.
The incident happened on the afternoon of 30 June 2026. Children under the age of ten were among those swept under the falling debris.
Rescue 1122 received the call at 16:45 local time and reached the scene within twenty minutes. The emergency operation was wrapped up in less than an hour, with the majority of survivors recovered being between seven and eleven years old.
Authorities have launched an investigation. Two individuals were placed in custody early, while the building’s roof had reportedly been in a weakened state. A resident noted that tiles were being repaired on the roof at the time the roofs fell, and that the collective weight of the children had contributed to the collapse.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif sent condolences and urged medical teams to tend to the wounded, while the Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, described the event as a “heartbreaking tragedy” and warned that any accountable parties would face legal consequences.
