Eurovision 2027 will be a seaside song contest held in the Bulgarian city of Burgas, organisers have confirmed.
The competition will run from 12‑15 May at the newly opened Arena Burgas, a state‑of‑the‑art sports and entertainment venue that first opened in 2023.
This follows a three‑city contest after the initial bids from Sofia, Varna and Plovdiv. As Bulgaria’s second‑largest city, Burgas was selected for its strong cultural identity, infrastructure and hospitality.
Bulgaria’s Eurovision moment began when singer Dara won last year in Vienna with the dance anthem “Bangaranga”, marking the country’s first championship. Following the win, TV and cultural officials have expressed pride and excitement over the new home for the event, saying it will showcase the very best of Bulgarian culture to a global audience.
Scouting and rehearsals for the semi‑finals and grand final will all take place at Arena Burgas, with plans for concerts set to highlight the local music scene.
The European Broadcasting Union also announced a new rule earlier this week: if a country embroiled in an armed conflict wins the contest, it will be barred from hosting the following year. The amendment was approved after broadcasters raised concerns during last year’s Vienna edition.
The change addresses concerns over national security and political stability, especially for countries experiencing active warfare. Critics argue Israel and Ukraine may be most affected, with Ukraine’s 2023 victory by Kalush Orchestra prompting a security review that ultimately moved the 2023 contest to Liverpool.
