French Court Convicts Two Men in Streaming-Gone-Dead Case

Two men have been convicted of aggravated violence in the death of French streamer Raphaël Graven.

Graven, 46, was found dead in the village of Contes, north of Nice, after a live broadcast on the streaming platform Kick in August 2025. The footage, which showed him lying lifeless on a mattress, was subsequently removed from the platform.

The convicted men – Safine Hamadi and Owen Cenazandotti – were accused of subjecting Graven to humiliating and abusing acts during the stream, which the pair claimed occurred with his consent. They were each sentenced to a suspended prison term: 18 months for Hamadi and two years for Cenazandotti. Both men were fined €5,000 and €15,000 respectively.

The court declined to charge the defendants with manslaughter, citing evidence that Graven’s death was largely due to pre‑existing health conditions, including a fragile heart. It also acquitted them of exploiting his psychological frailty, noting his prior consent to the stunts.

Both men are banned from posting on Kick for six months. Kick, however, is not a party to the proceedings and remains under investigation by French authorities.

Graven had amassed over a million followers across social media, and his death has reignited debate over the safety of online challenge content. The verdict may signal a more stringent stance on online violence in France.
