American rapper Kanye West has announced the postponement of an upcoming concert in Marseille, France 'until further notice.' This move follows the recent cancellation of the Wireless Festival, where West was supposed to headline, after the UK government barred him from entering the country.
Reports from French media indicate that Interior Minister Laurent Nunez was considering a ban on the scheduled concert. According to an unnamed source close to Nunez, the minister is 'highly determined' to prohibit the event.
For years, West has drawn criticism for a series of inflammatory comments that many have labeled as antisemitic, racist, and pro-Nazi. On social media, West, now known as Ye, expressed his decision to postpone the Marseille show, underlining that it was made 'after much thought and consideration.'
In his statement, West added, 'I know it takes time to understand the sincerity of my commitment to make amends,' and he took 'full responsibility' for his actions, reiterating his love for his fans and expressing anticipation for future shows.
The rapper was scheduled to perform at the Wireless Festival in London and the Marseille concert as part of a European tour this summer. Despite the postponement, West's official website still lists him for performances in several other European countries including Turkey, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, and Portugal, along with a show in New Delhi, India set for late May.
West's controversial past includes making statements that triggered outrage, such as declaring 'death con 3 On Jewish people' in 2022, promoting positive remarks about Adolf Hitler, and releasing a song titled 'Heil Hitler.' Recently, he attempted to restore his public image by apologizing for his past actions, attributing them to his struggles with bipolar disorder. 'I am not a Nazi or an antisemite,' he wrote in a lengthy statement, asserting his love for Jewish people.
