In a shocking development, Argentinian prosecutors announced that three people have been charged in connection with the tragic death of Liam Payne, the famed singer known for his role in the boy band One Direction. The 31-year-old artist passed away on October 16 after reportedly falling from a third-floor balcony at a hotel in Buenos Aires.
According to the authorities, one individual who was with Payne during the incident has been charged with abandonment of a person resulting in death, along with supplying and facilitating drugs. A hotel employee, along with a third person, also faces charges related to drug supply. The names of those arrested have not been disclosed.
Payne, who gained global fame from his time on The X Factor and as part of One Direction in the 2010s, was found to have traces of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant in his system, as indicated by toxicology tests. A post-mortem examination confirmed the cause of death as "multiple trauma" due to the fall, alongside "internal and external hemorrhage."
Authorities continue to investigate Payne's final days at the CasaSur hotel, conducting at least nine raids at homes around Buenos Aires. They are also delving into the circumstances surrounding Payne's damaged laptop and other devices that were confiscated during the probe.
