Two brothers wanted in connection with a deadly fire at their nightclub in India's Goa state, which killed 25 people, have been detained in Thailand, India's ambassador to Thailand, Nagesh Singh, told the BBC.

Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra, owners of the Birch By Romeo Lane club, fled to Phuket shortly after the incident on Sunday, December 10. They will be sent back [to India], Mr. Singh stated on Thursday, following a Delhi court's refusal to grant them protection from arrest as the Goa government sought to revoke their passports.

The brothers have not made public statements, but their lawyer claims they are victims of a witch hunt. The fire at the club broke out early Sunday morning in a popular nightlife zone, reportedly triggered by fireworks set off inside.

Among the casualties, most were staff members, with five tourists included in the death toll. Following the incident, authorities raided the brothers' Delhi home, only to discover they had already fled the country, prompting police to enlist Interpol's assistance.

Saurabh Luthra later expressed his grief on social media, offering condolences and support to the victims' families. Goa's Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that arrests have been made, with more expected as the investigation continues.

Goa, known for its vibrant nightlife and tourism, faces scrutiny as this tragedy unfolds.
