LOS ANGELES (AP) — Investigators have begun questioning family members following the shocking deaths of director-actor Rob Reiner and his wife Michele at their home in Los Angeles. Reports suggest they suffered stab wounds, and the incident is being treated as a possible homicide.

Authorities have not yet identified any suspects in the case, as Los Angeles Police Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton mentioned during a briefing on Sunday night. We are going to try to speak to every family member that we can to get to the facts of this investigation, he said.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a medical aid request on Sunday afternoon, where they discovered the couple, aged 78 and 68, respectively. Rob Reiner celebrated his birthday earlier this year in March.

Investigators from the Robbery Homicide Division have labeled the event an 'apparent homicide' and are conducting a thorough examination of the scene located in the upscale Brentwood neighborhood, known for its celebrity residents.

Rob Reiner was a prolific figure in Hollywood, renowned for classic films such as “This is Spinal Tap,” “A Few Good Men,” “When Harry Met Sally,” and “The Princess Bride,” spanning the decades of the 1980s and ’90s. Additionally, he gained fame for his role as Meathead in the iconic TV show “All in the Family,” which garnered him two Emmy Awards.

The death of Reiner has sent shockwaves throughout the entertainment community. Mayor Karen Bass called the loss devastating, stating, “Rob Reiner’s contributions reverberate throughout American culture and society. He has improved countless lives through his creative work and advocacy for social and economic justice.”

Reiner leaves behind three children from his marriage with Michele Singer Reiner, which began in 1989. He was also married to actress Penny Marshall from 1971 to 1981. This incident highlights the rarity of violent crimes in the Brentwood neighborhood, an area historically known for its peaceful environment.
